Feb.15.24 - Day 1964 - Clarence Avant

The black godfather. Clarence Avant. A story more people should know. The ultimate connector. The man who saw opportunity in people who didn’t see it in themselves. A man who made sure you got paid. A man who wasn’t afraid to speak his mind. A man who was direct but humble. A man who gave without expecting anything in return. A man who pushed black culture forward more than people would ever know. Black culture is synonymous with Western culture these days and we owe a lot of that to Clarence Avant. The kingmaker. The deal king. The man who shaped Hollywood, music and politics. Insane to think how much impact that one man could have. THink of all the people who’ve been inspired by the art that he put together behind the scenes. Literally tens of millions of people. He created music people listened to in South Africa during the apartheid. Music that gave black people hope. That was him and his talent. Reminds me of Rick Rubin in some aspects; his knack for spotting talent. What an incredible human being with an incredible story. Watch the Black Godfather.
