Day 1105 - Oct.26.21 - Appreciate other’s writing

Don’t be jealous of other people’s writing. It’s their voice, not yours. So what you can’t write like them? Instead of envy, shift to beauty. Appreciate how people can tie sentences and metaphors together that give the reader such a clear picture. You’re a long way from that. But you’re getting better and that’s what’s important. Your voice will change as you write more often and will begin to hone language as you read and continue to experience life. Remember, what you think is good someone else may think sucks. And the writing you think sucks some people might think it’s good. You never know what others are going to think of your work till you put it out there. Always remember that as long as you’re happy with what you’ve produced, their opinion of your work doesn’t matter. You’re not living anyone else’s life or telling anyone else’s story. Own your story. Own your work. Hold yourself accountable. Just because it’s bad today doesn’t mean it can’t be better tomorrow. The goal is to keep producing work no matter how hard and bad it may seem. Focus on the task in front of you and focus on the work. The work and impact are what’s important. Don’t worry about other people’s amazing writing, focus on being better than you were before.
