Then they came for us:

Then they came for us.

They’ve been coming for generations.

Decades of oppression.

Decades of bombings.

Decades of murders.

Decades of destruction.

It happened to us.

It happened to our family.

It happened to our people.

The world watched.

And did nothing.

They let it happen.

They let them occupy.

They let them kill.

They let them steal our land.

The West.

The Middle East.

The world.

They watched us starve.

They watched us lose our rights.

They watched us lose our homes.

They watched us get bombed.

And they did nothing.

We protested.

We participated in the peace process.

We asked for change.

And nothing.

So a few of us got tired.

A few of us got angry.

A few of us got brainwashed.

Brainwashed into believing.

Believing in an ideology.

Believing in only one way of life.

Believing in the genocide of a race.

But that wasn’t us.

That’s not my family.

That’s not my friends.

That’s not my people.

Doesn’t matter to the rest of the world.

They think we’re the same.

They think the terrorists speak on behalf of us.

They think we, the Palestinians are responsible.

Wrong.

We’re pawns.

We’re bystanders.

We’re innocent.

But now because of the actions of a few, we have to suffer.

Not just suffer but be destroyed.

We have to watch war crimes happen in front of us.

We have to leave our homes.

We have to watch our land get destroyed.

We have to watch our family die.

We have to watch our destruction while the world watches.

While they plan.

While they position.

While they strategize.

Meanwhile we’re just waiting.

We’re helpless.

We’re struggling.

We’re afraid.

We have no way out.

We prayed, then they came for us.

We pleaded, then they came for us.

We resisted, then they came for us.

Will they ever stop coming for us?
