There is no happy ending:

There is no happy ending.

The words Anthony Bourdain said at the beginning of ‘RoadRunner’

The documentary about his life.

Worth watching for everyone.

Even those who don’t know him.

See it free here.

Quick backstory.

He was a master chef turned best-selling author turned TV travel show host.

At one point, he was the most famous chef in the world.

As they mentioned in the movie, he couldn’t leave his house for more than a minute anywhere in the world without someone coming up and talking to him.

But this was more than just a story about his fame.

It was a story about the man.

A story about his life.

About his journey.

Into the spotlight.

Through darkness.

And eventually into suicide.

What a movie.

What a documentary.

What a person.

A man who inspired so many through his work.

Through his art.

Through his zest for being himself.

A man who wanted to show people what the world was really like.

Not the one you see in the news.

But the one on the ground every day.

There are a few scenes where he goes to Cambodia, Haiti and Libya to show you what it’s really like there.

What people actually experience.

He shined a light on so many people’s stories.

But he could never get away from his own.

The one he told himself.

He could never conquer those demons in his head.

The ones we all deal with.

He couldn’t take it anymore.

His life felt like it closed in on him.

He made an impulsive decision.

And now he’s gone.

But the documentary showed a man who was loved.

A man who battled demons but a man who had so many people supporting him.

So many people loving him.

So many people who admired him.

We don’t say that enough to those we love.

‘Hey man, thanks for being you. You’re awesome. You mean a lot to me.’

‘If you ever need someone to talk to, I’m here.’

In any situation under any circumstance in any negative thought, please.

Please talk to someone.

It could save your life.

I wish Bourdain knew that.

Everyone on that show wishes he knew that.

Keanu Reeves said that a few years ago on a talk show

Stephen Colbert asked him ‘What happens when you die?’

He responded - ‘I know that the ones who love us will miss us.’

Ain’t that the truth.

Couldn’t have been more evident with the documentary.

You never know how many people you touch.

How many people you inspire.

How far your message can go.

No matter how many demons you’re battling.

No matter how alone you are.

No matter how down you feel.

Always know there is someone out there to talk to.

Always.

We’re all gonna go one day, but it should NEVER be because you decide to end it.

Never.
