They screw you up:

They screw you up.

Your parents.

They don’t mean to.

But they do.

They fill you with the thoughts they have.

And add some extra, just for you.

But they were screwed up in their childhood.

Born into circumstances they couldn’t control.

Born to parents who were busy dealing with their own problems.

Trying to navigate the world with a blueprint they didn’t ask for.

Doing the best they can to get you where you are.

Sure they weren’t perfect, but who is?

They were just doing their best.

They didn’t have the resources we have today.

The technology.

The internet.

The access to information instantaneously.

They were just navigating based on what they saw from other people.

From their surroundings.

They’re just as much a function of their circumstances as you and I are.

They were hurt.

Remember, hurt people hurt people.

So give them credit.

Forgive them.

Let their opinions of you go.

Don’t worry about them.

They love you and support you.

Doesn’t mean they always agree with you, but they’re there.

Waiting for you to call.

Waiting for you to show up.

Waiting for you to spend time with them.

Don’t take them for granted.

Cherish them.

Appreciate them.

Thank them for screwing you up.

It made you who you are today.
